Case Study #131: Crankshafts

Problem: Picking up the crankshafts and transferring them to the inspection table was repetitive. The crankshafts weigh 25 lbs. and were difficult to pick up by hand.

Application: The application calls for a way to grip the crankshafts in a horizontal position on one of two parallel conveyors and transfer them to the inspection station.

Solution: A floor mounted ReactionArm® Manipulator with 121 lbs. of payload and end-effector capacity, 24 1/2″ of vertical travel and 360° of main post rotation. Dual Jaw Gripper end-effector with jaws made of Ampco Bronze. Push Button Metering control with push button grip/release. Gripper Safety Circuitry to prevent actuation of the release circuitry unless part is fully supported.
