Case Study #119: Engine Pins

Problem: Pins are transferred in and out of machining centers, each with its own clearance problems dictating where the pin can be gripped. Customer’s machine operators are apprehensive concerning manipulators. End-effector must be lightweight, simplistic, operator friendly and safe to use.

Application: Transferring cylinder pins to and from various machining centers.

Solution: Vertical Lift Cylinder with I.D. gripper and rotate end-effector. Two O.D. gripper end-effectors with powered pitching and center of gravity actuator. Two electric release permanent magnets with two-speed hoists. Bridge crane system supporting a variety of different end-effectors. All end-effectors have Gripper Safety Circuitry and release allowed visual indicators.
