Heavy parts were being mounted to an engine on a hanging conveyor and engines are allowed to sway. Operators had to crawl under the engine to insert shields onto installed housing with only 6″ clearance.

Device must handle a variety of parts and part weights. Close work area makes it impossible to use a floor-mounted unit. Cycle time is short.

End-effector must handle large variations in roll diameters. The roll cannot withstand excessive grip force. The unit would need to handle over 5,000 in-lbs. of off-center moment loading.
Two different blade designs with two distinct curvatures and weights. Blades are high cost precision parts that are very susceptible to damage if they inadvertently contact a hard surface. Application has various part orientations for placement into carts and test fixtures. End-effector requires both a pitch and rotation function.
High torque application requiring 100mm nuts being tightened and loosened on a steel fixture. The bolts were both in vertical and horizontal orientation. The application required the operator to use heavy impact wrenches, hand wrenches, and sledgehammers. There was no ability to monitor the actual torque of the nuts and high potential for injury to the employee.

Several operators were trying to assemble shrouds onto the dampers, flipping the parts over and handling sharp edges. Customer needed a way to lift, hold and rotate the dampers as operators install sheet metal shrouds with rivets.

The end-effector must be mounted above the boxes, but thin enough to fit between an overhead obstruction and the top of the highest box. The operator needs to reach the controls on the end-effector when they are positioning the first bottom layer and top layer.
